I tell you what.working on these is wicked hard. A few of them I have down but the ones I don't I try to get and it seems like my fingers don't want to go there. Like they're fighting me. Every time I play these thing I have a renewed respect for who Brecker was and how he played! Indeed Nef, I have some transcribed solos from Mr Brecker and its almost impossible.to play them.if you want to develop a better technique its a good way to try and play his licks.especially at his speed,,damn!!
He was one of the greatest, Greetz Marcus. I posted these Brecker licks again today. I cleaned up the sheets and separated the licks and numbered then to make it easier to read. I also did a couple of lessons today on how to use the first 18 of these. What chords to use them over and the best way to practice them. I've had a lot of people email me with questions on how to use the licks and patterns.

Thanks a lot for the licks Steve. I've always thought that Brecker had some of the hippest licks around, but found his solos too hard to play, even with transcriptions on hand. So it's great to have this collection of shorter fragments to see and play. I've only started going through the first 20 licks or so, playing through them on piano slowly. Right off the bat, I can see that many of them look like sequences that are moved around by various steps, such as chromatically, thirds etc.

It's given me a better idea of one of the characteristic ways Brecker constructs his lines. I'm just letting it soak in for a bit, and a little of it is starting to percolate out when I do my guitar shedding late at night. Perhaps this also explains my sudden urge to rush out and buy a LT Crescent tenor mouthpiece from WWBW lol.
