Tama Superstar Serial Numbers
Hello people. I managed to score myself a Tama Starclassic kit off trademe (New Zealand equivalent of ebay) for $1000 NZ ($600 US) with a gibralter rack. The onyl problem is that I'm not sure what type of Starclassic model it is.
Mid 80s Tama Superstars are the 9700 series drums, made in Japan and are 6 ply 9mm shells of 100% Japanese birch. These shells differ from the earlier 9600 series shells that were 4 ply 6mm shells with re-rings.
The sizes of the toms are a rather unusual 11x11, 13x13 and 16x16 configuration and the snare is a Starclassic brass with triple flanged hoops. Another trader suggested that it was the Performer Basswood Starclassic but not with certainty.
Any help would be appreciated. Picutres below: http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/0_full.jpg. Main drivers of globalization. 'ere mate your starclassic is just like mine, 'cept a much better colour. The kick drum hoops don't look like anything I've seen on a Starclassic drum though, so they may not be the original hoops. Back in about the 90s the performer series used to have GRP hoops, it was more of a 'midrange' kit but very good quality drums nonetheless. There's mine, i've wrapped it in camo fabric now because the colour was so awful though:p Also the huge 14' tom is now hanging.
