I have just bought a 10 in 1 universal remote control - it is packaged up as a `Waltham` product but the manual (labelled `OET_URC`) that came with it is badly written by someone who obviously uses english as a second language. It is identical to an 8 in 1 universal remote (with obvious exceptions), which I bought but later returned to Poundstretcher because it had no instructions at all. The codes don`t cover all of my equipment so I am looking for an alternative source, but can find nothing.. There seems to be loads of these being flogged on ebay in different guises eg this and this. They all look the same but where do I find codes for them anyone got any clues? I didn`t get any responses from anyone else:p, but I`ve managed to find some stuff out myself. This is the remote sold for about £4-99 in Poundstretcher and whole load of other places.

It is the NSE URC22B and the product code for each of the variations will be followed by `-7B` for the 7 in 1, `-12B` for the 12 in 1 etc. A search of Google is quite an experience. It appears that everyman woeman and child and their dogs have one of these and have all lost their manuals. There are reams and reams of pages of people asking for codes for various products to be sent, but I still haven`t found a site that either shows the manual or lists the codes. I don`t know who NSE are, so I don`t know if they have their own website or not.. Can anyone help? Most universal remote controls have a `search mode` that works without needing a code number.

Usually you press something like SET+TV (or whatever device you wish to set up) and hold for 3 seconds. The light will start to flash repeatedly as it transmits every possible Power command to your TV, one by one.

As soon as your TV turns on or off, you press the TV button to store the code. This can be tedious, it may take about 20 minutes to go through all the codes and you may miss the moment when your TV turns off, meaning you have to repeat the whole exercise again. You may also discover a code that operates the power, but not everything else. Keep searching. Some remotes can reveal the code number you have found by the search method, by pressing SET+1, +2, +3. The LED flashes a number of times, the number of flashes equals the first, 2nd or 3rd digit of the code. If you make a note of it, you don`t have to search again after replacing the batteries, just press and release SET+TV then enter code.

These instructions seem to apply for a lot of the cheap Chinese pound store remotes. The 9 in 1 universal remote that I have is called UET 609.

From the instructions it says press and hold SET plus TVTXT1 until the light stays on, then enter the code for Daewoo television which is 168 or 209, then press Power. If that doesn`t work, the search method is: switch on your TV.

Press and hold SET+TVTXT1 until the light stays on, then release, the press SET again and release. The light should be blinking.
