Leolani Ukulele Serial Number
I am new to Leolani as a dealer, but not as a player. The reason they are not well known in the USA mainland, is they have a lot of sales in Hawaii and places west of there. They are well constructed and beautifullly finished. They play easily and have a good sound. I took a couple of different ukuleles to our Thursday evening jam. They made the rounds or all 15 players, and the comments were all favorable about the Leolani ukulele.

I recently purchased a Leolani thin-body Concert at the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet a summer or 2 ago. I really wanted a Kala Travel Concert, but none were available and the price difference was substantial. I enjoy the Leolani which is a laminate construction, but beautifully done. I will have to do some work on the nut and saddle at the action is so low I hear buzzing. But I'm sure it can be remedied. These are great ukes for beginners. One caveat, in my opinion, the build quality can be inconsistent in that the spacing of the strings, basically the nut, can leave the strings closer to one edge of the neck or the other, and not evenly down the center of the neck/fretboard.
The wood grains are beautiful as laminates generally are. And, like mmstan observes, they are FUN to play. In fact, I bought a Leolani soprano, several years back for only $7. I changed out the really cheap peg-style tuners for geared ones, changed the strings, and busked with it for several seasons at Waikiki to show passers-by (Tourists) that some of the cheaper ukes could still be players. If you're ever in Hawaii on a Wed or Sat and Sun, try to make it to the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet. There are a couple of Uke-only vendors, one of whom specializes in Leolani brand ukes. And keep uke'in'.
