Roy Ayers (born September 10, 1940) is an American funk, soul, and jazz composer and vibraphone player. Ayers began his career as a post-bop jazz artist, releasing several albums with Atlantic Records, before his tenure at Polydor Records beginning in the 1970s, during which he helped pioneer jazz-funk. He is a key figure in the acid jazz movement, which is a mixture of jazz into hip-hop and funk, and has been dubbed by many as 'The Godfather of Neo Soul'.
He is most well known for his signature compositions 'Everybody Loves The Sunshine' and 'Searchin'. And is also famous for having more sampled hits by rappers than any other artist. Review: Originally released in 1996, Ultra's soul sizzler gets a futurised refix as Mousse T unearths a few renditions that have yet to see the light of day. As with anything that features Roy Ayers, it's all about the freaky keys that positively insist you shake every wobbly bit on your body. Highlights include the flute and jazz fusion of Deepzone's dub and the classic Chicago house bumps and wriggles on KKC's remix. Mousse T's own deep house take certainly isn't to be sniffed at either. Vibes indeed.
Review: 'Sugar' lay unissued for many years, before finally seeing the light of day on BBE's 2003 set of previously unheard Roy Ayers' recordings, Virgin Ubiquity. It was later remixed by Dave Lee under his familiar Joey Negro pseudonym, and here gets the multi-track edit treatment from French scalpel specialist The Reflex. He typically does a good job of building energy and excitement throughout the vocal version's seven-minute duration, showcasing different instruments (vibraphone, horns, bass, guitars) and the track's alternating male and female vocals, in the manner of Tom Moulton or Walter Gibbons.

Starbound human ship. The accompanying instrumental is tasty, too, but lacks a little of the vocal revision's soulful charm.
